But it’s not just a matter of taste. There is a great deal of style that makes Caffè Stagnitta “Ideal”. The praise from the Financial Times actually describes the cultural context – “just off the Piazza Bellini (home to three of the prettiest churches in all of Sicily)” – in which the historic shop is located: because there is also so much of Palermo in the intense aroma of our coffee.
And then there is all the poetry of the ancient artisanal roastery. The piece by Maria Shollenbarger highlights the array of tools and shelves in burnished wood and marble where glass jars of single-origin coffee beans, chocolates, and sweets are still displayed today, together creating that “old-world” atmosphere typical of a 19th-century shop.
